Dennis Outten
I work primarily in installation, film and sound. My art is reactionary and critical of social media, the mundane, current affairs and personal experience. I use my interest in physics, the esoteric and the uncanny to convey the patterns and hidden links between objects, ideas and narratives often overlooked in everyday life. I like to deconstruct ideas and observations then reassemble their meanings. I do this by altering the scale, the juxtaposition with other objects and then heighten the viewers experience by using a specific site for exhibition and adding environmental effects like sound and lighting.
What intrigues me about art is its uses in altering perspectives and as a form of sensory expression. To me art is not just a painting, or a sculpture, or a film; it is an idea, a possibility and a language.
